The pain you recognize

Why zigzag routing and no arrival notice costs you jobs, fuel, and customer patience every day

Tech driving unnecessary miles, customer leaving before arrival because they got no heads-up, dispatcher fielding 'where is the tech?' calls. All of these disappear with GPS visit routing.

Tech driving across town and back instead of a logical sequence

Marcus has five visits today: three in the north valley, one downtown, one in Scottsdale. Without route optimization he goes in calendar order: north valley, Scottsdale, north valley, downtown, north valley. Three hours of extra windshield time that bills nothing.

Customer left for work because they assumed you were a no-show

Visit was scheduled for the morning window. Tech ran 45 minutes late on the previous job. No alert went out. Customer waited until 10:30, had a meeting, left. Tech arrived at 10:45 to an empty driveway. Job rescheduled, fuel wasted, customer irritated.

'Where is my technician?' is your dispatcher's most common call

Five customers call asking for an ETA. Dispatcher calls the tech, who cannot talk because he is mid-job. Dispatcher gives an approximate time. Customer is still annoyed. This loop runs every day at any service company without automated ETA.

Fuel cost keeps rising but jobs-per-day does not

A three-tech team running unoptimized routes burns an estimated 30-35% more fuel per month than necessary. For a typical shop that is $400-800 per month in extra cost with no additional revenue to show for it.

How it works

How GPS visit routing works in the Reimagine Hub

From a consolidated schedule to an automated ETA text in 4 steps:

1

Step 1: The day's confirmed jobs feed Deco AI, which builds the optimized sequence

The night before or early morning, Deco AI reads every confirmed job for each technician. It considers address, estimated job duration, customer preference window, and historical traffic by time of day and area. Output is a sequenced route that minimizes total miles driven.

2

Step 2: Tech opens Hub on their phone and sees the day's stops in order

Marcus opens Hub on his phone. He sees each visit in the optimized sequence with the customer's name, address, job type, and estimated drive time to each stop. One tap opens turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps or Waze for that address.

3

Step 3: Hub GPS detects the tech leaving and calculates a live ETA

When Hub detects Marcus driving away from the current job address, it calculates real-time ETA to the next customer using live traffic. When ETA hits 15 minutes, it fires an automated text to the next customer.

4

Step 4: Customer receives a text with the tech's name and a live tracking link

Automated text: 'Hi Sarah, Marcus is on his way to your home. Estimated arrival: 2:47 PM. Track him live.' The link shows a dot moving on the map toward the customer's address in real time. No calls, no guessing.

GPS routing in action: two real scenarios

How an optimized route cut two hours of drive time and how an automated ETA saved a job that would have been rescheduled.

HVAC tech eliminates zigzag routing across the valley with Deco AI route optimization

Persona

Marcus averages five visits per day. Before Hub he drove in calendar order. He was losing about two hours per day in unnecessary drive time between stops.

  1. 7:50 AM
    Hub

Deco AI builds optimized route for Marcus's 5 stops: Ahwatukee → South Phoenix → Chandler → Tempe → Mesa. Total: 52 miles vs. 81 miles in calendar order.

    Hub
Marcus, your route for today is ready. 5 stops, 52 miles, 7h30 estimated. First stop: 4821 S. Forest Ave, Ahwatukee.
    7:50 AM
  2. 10:15 AM
    Hub

Marcus leaves the 2nd stop. GPS detects movement. ETA to next customer: 17 minutes.

Hi Mrs. Cooper, Marcus is on his way. Estimated arrival: 10:32 AM. Track him live here.
  3. 4:30 PM
    Marcus

Wraps the 5th visit. Finished 2 hours earlier than his old calendar-order route.

Outcome

Marcus completed the same 5 visits 2 hours earlier. Fuel saved: approximately $28 per day. Over a 22-day work month that is $616 in direct savings for one technician.

Before vs. after

Maps per stop vs. manual route sheet vs. enterprise software vs. Reimagine Hub: four approaches to technician routing

Without Reimagine Hub

  • Tech sequences visits in calendar order. Zigzag routing burns 2-3 hours of drive time and fuel.
  • No arrival alert. Customer leaves because they assumed the tech is not coming. Job rescheduled, double the fuel.
  • Dispatcher fields five 'where is the tech?' calls per day. Wastes time calling the tech who cannot talk.
  • Fuel cost 30-35% higher than necessary. Company pays more without delivering more jobs.
  • Late tech, no heads-up, irritated customer before the job even starts.
  • Day ends with four jobs done when an optimized route could have fit six.

With Reimagine Hub

  • Deco AI builds the optimal sequence. Tech completes more stops with fewer miles in the same shift.
  • Automated 'on my way' text fires 15 minutes before arrival. Customer is home and ready. Job happens.
  • Zero 'where is the tech?' calls. Dispatcher focuses on booking new work instead of locating field staff.
  • Fuel drops because the route eliminates zigzag mileage. Direct savings of $400-800/month for a 3-tech team.
  • Customer gets a live tracking link. Real ETA, not a guess. Satisfaction starts before the tech arrives.
  • More visits per day in the same work hours. Revenue per tech increases without adding headcount.

By the numbers

What businesses report after adopting GPS visit routing

Fewer miles, less fuel, more visits per day, zero ETA calls to the dispatcher. Metrics observed in similar field-service operations:

2-3h
Daily unnecessary drive time eliminated per technician
optimized route vs. calendar-order sequence
-35%
Fuel cost reduction for a 3-tech team
zigzag miles eliminated by Deco AI route sequencing
0
'Where is the tech?' calls reaching the dispatcher
automated ETA text replaces all manual ETA communication
+1-2
Extra visits per technician per day on the optimized route
same working hours, more jobs completed and invoiced

Results vary by volume, service catalog, and configuration. Figures observed across Reimagine operations running this feature for 3+ months.

What sets us apart

Reimagine Hub vs. Maps vs. route sheet vs. enterprise: what makes routing different

There are several ways to manage field routing today. Here is why Hub routing goes beyond a navigation app or a dispatcher's spreadsheet:

Google Maps or Waze per stop

What it is
Technician uses a navigation app for each individual address, without integration with the job schedule.
Limitation
Does not optimize the sequence across multiple stops. Tech decides the order manually. No automated ETA text to the customer. No live tracking link shared with the customer.
Hub
Reimagine Hub optimizes the sequence for all of the day's stops at once and sends an automated ETA text to the next customer as the tech moves. Google Maps handles the turn-by-turn on the last mile.

Manual route sheet from the dispatcher

What it is
Dispatcher builds a daily route in a spreadsheet or whiteboard and sends it to each tech.
Limitation
30-60 minutes of manual work per day per tech, human sequencing errors, no real-time recalculation when a job runs long, no automated ETA to the customer.
Hub
Deco AI builds the optimized route in seconds without dispatcher involvement. ETA recalculates in real time as traffic changes. Customer alert fires automatically. Dispatcher is freed for revenue-generating tasks.

Enterprise dispatch software (e.g., Onfleet, Routific)

What it is
Dedicated route optimization platforms built primarily for delivery fleet logistics.
Limitation
$500-2,000/month as a separate tool, focused on parcel delivery logic rather than service-job workflows, no native integration with customer texting or the job record.
Hub
Reimagine Hub brings route optimization inside the same system that manages jobs, customer texts, contracts, and invoices. No separate platform, no custom integration, included in the plan.

Technical honesty

When GPS routing needs a manual adjustment

The optimized route covers most days without intervention. A few situations benefit from manual override.

Visits with strict arrival windows (e.g., a property manager who is only available at exactly 10 AM) can reduce the optimization benefit if the constraints lock the sequence

Addresses in rural areas or new subdivisions without complete map data may require a manual reference point in the job record for accurate routing

A last-minute cancellation requires the tech or dispatcher to re-sequence the remaining stops, either manually or by requesting a new Deco AI calculation in Hub

What Hub does instead

Hub lets the tech or dispatcher reorder stops with a drag-and-drop list and automatically recalculates ETAs for all remaining customers when the sequence changes.

Comes with the Hub

GPS visit routing is built into the Reimagine Hub, connected to scheduling, time clock, and job history

GPS visit routing connects with the multi-team scheduler (to know which jobs are confirmed each day), the GPS time clock (to record arrival and departure at each address), conversations linked to the job (to fire the ETA text from the job record), and the performance dashboard (to track miles driven per tech against jobs invoiced). One system, no external routing app with no job context.

Glossary

Routing and tracking terms explained

Plain-English definitions for GPS routing concepts as they apply in Hub.

Optimized route
A sequenced list of stops ordered by Deco AI to minimize total miles and drive time, factoring in each job's estimated duration and the customer's preferred arrival window.
ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival)
The real-time calculated arrival time based on the tech's current GPS position and live traffic. Hub sends this number to the customer automatically when the tech is 15 minutes away.
Live tracking link
A shareable URL sent to the customer that shows the technician's position on a map updating in real time. The link works without the customer installing any app.
Preference window
The time range the customer prefers for their visit (e.g., 'morning' or '9 AM to 11 AM'). Hub factors this constraint into the optimized sequence without overriding it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about GPS visit routing

Is the route calculated the night before or the morning of?

Hub offers both. The next-day route can be calculated the evening before so the tech wakes up knowing their sequence. Same-day routes calculate first thing in the morning. The ETA sent to each customer recalculates live as the tech moves and traffic changes.

What if the customer does not want a live tracking link?

Live tracking is opt-in. The default sends only the ETA text with an estimated arrival time, no tracking link. Customers who want to track can tap the optional link. Companies can disable live tracking entirely in Hub settings.

How many technicians can the routing handle simultaneously?

There is no technician limit. Hub calculates a separate optimized route for every tech with jobs that day. The performance dashboard shows all field staff simultaneously with each visit's current status.

Does it work in rural areas?

Yes, with a caveat. Urban and suburban addresses work without any setup. Rural addresses or new developments without a precise Google Maps entry need a manual reference point added to the job record. The tech's GPS still provides accurate tracking even in areas with incomplete map data.

Does the customer get a text or an email?

Text message by default (highest open rate). Email as a fallback if the cell number is unavailable. The ETA communication channel is configurable per customer in their Hub profile.
